Buenos Aires is a garbage city!!!

I have been here in Argentina exactly a month on the day today and I do not like it that much. I do not understand why there is so much hype surrounding Argentina and Buenos Aires in the outside world. My experience of this country and its people has been depressive and melancholic so far. This is afterall a tangoland.......

It is seldom you see smiling faces in downtown Buenos Aires....socio-economic upheavals can not explain the sad mood engulfing the whole of this nation as the international economic crisis have hit every corner of the planet. Garbage plastics everywhere on the streets and stone faces of indifference were not my anticipation of this city.

You can still have a great time if you are looking for it as this is a city of millions of people. But I am not in that sense of humour right now and thereby my negative impression and reflection of this country. This is part and parcel of being a homosapien.

I was in a small town called Tigre during the weekend and I liked it better than Buenos Aires. The Tigringa and Tigre speaking people of Eritrea have nothing in common with this place except for the names:-)

The weather is sunny almost allways.........on saturday we had 37 degree celsius of heat and yesterday only 16 and today 25...a lot of fluctuations at times but for most of the time ,it has been around 30.

Im also surprised by your description of Buenos Aires. Ivé had the impression that its a easy going and relaxed city.
Just from reading your description the first thing that comes to my mind is that it might be because of the relative wealth that the Aurgentinues experinece that they behave this way.

In my experience, people tend to become moore uptight and proud of them selfs, the moore money and assetts they have. This especially in developing countries.

I personally can relate to my experience in Morocco. In cities where people experience relative wealth, as forexample Rabat, people tend to thing to much of themselvs, in comparesment to for example marrakech.

I think the reason to this is, partly, that people how are not really "wealthy" in the true meaning of the word but still andure moore wealth then the majority of theyre fellow countrymen, have some kind of complex in some way. In some way they leave a quite ok life, but not relly. Its like they can smell the wealth of the wests riches but not fully. Since they are not able to experience the lifestyle of the people they wich they where like, they take out theyre anger over this at the ones how are moore below then them.

I think this is a pattern thats seen all over the world. In Addis, for example, I saw middle class Ethiopians looking down at the poorer ones and even insulting the beggers. I even meet relaivley poor people trying to behave as rich ones, dressing up nice and looking down at the beggers.

Generally I think that people, excpecially in developing countries try to behave as somethin theyre not. They think that having a lot of money ecuaols with succes and happenies, and that people will respect them for theyre "achivements". Im not that aware of the situation in Argentina, How wealthy or poor it is, but I guess that this is also the case there.

Obviously then fault of all this is Capitalism, which is as we all now the ruling idolegy at at least 90 % or moore of the planets countries.

Its time for the people of the earth to discover a moore positive and developing way of life for the world. As for example Socialism, Or maybe a completly new even greater ideology which we could create.

There's an Argentinian saying that goes: "We are Europeans born in South America by God's mistake". This attitude is frequently shown in the well-known arrogance towards other South Americans.

Interesting to note is, that the most merchandised label of Argentina, the tango, probably has a very un-Argentinian origin.

The generally accepted theory is that in the mid-1800s, African slaves were brought to Argentina and began to influence the local culture. The word "tango" may be straightforwardly African in origin, meaning "closed place" or "reserved ground", where further details on which exact language the words are translated from, are hard to find.

Others say the word derives from the Portuguese (and from the Latin verb tanguere, to touch) and was picked up by Africans on the slave ships. Whatever origin, the word "tango" acquired the standard meaning of the place where African slaves and free blacks gathered to dance.
